Behn Vintage, Model BC (bass clarinet mouthpiece)

Model BC utilizes a tip rollover and double concave baffle design that profiles the “S-curve” feature of several Behn-Vintage soprano clarinet mouthpiece designs. The throat is of moderate width and slightly “A-framed” to create the ideal balance of flexibility and stability. Its bore is narrow but due to the baffle shape and chamber volume its sound is large and concentrated and holds the core at all dynamics with less maintenance from the embouchure. The rollover at the tip creates quick response and focal energy whereas the baffle slope adds depth and body to the sound. The material acoustics provide resonance, warmth, and ease of response.

The sounds as produced on an old Henri Chedeville bass clarinet mouthpiece and an old Selmer bass clarinet mouthpiece were the sources of our inspiration. Please note that Model BC is an original design and it is not a copy of any one mouthpiece. Its design combines our research of many fine bass clarinet designs with our own concepts.

Model BC is made from Behn proprietary rod rubber.
