This Vandoren mouthpiece represents the best of Vandoren...in my opinion. The older "Diamond Perfecta" era which Cahuzac made infamous was also very good, but in my opinion, the generation that came out of the "Diamond" models was better. Why? Because the rubber offered more upper partials in the sound. Not that it is a brighter mouthpiece but it is more complete with a fullness of resonance that the "Diamonds" just didn't quite have.
I refaced and reconditioned this mouthpiece to a classic 1.02mm tip opening and 17mm length. It has a beautifully sculpted chamber and bore configured with the classic 'old school' french gentle A-frame throat. The baffle has a gentle slope to it, not deep, making for amazing response, freedom, and richness of sound. Between the elegant rod rubber material's tonal attributes, and the chamber's super resonance construction - this mouthpiece is a FANTASTIC old vintage example of what makes that era so great. It isn't a dark mouthpiece, and it isn't a bright mouthpiece - it offers a fullness of sound, and richness of colors that modern mouthpieces typically just don't have. This is just about as good an example of a Vandoren from this Mid-Century era that you'll find.
If you have been interested in old mouthpieces, and if you like the Vandoren brand... well, this is nothing like a modern Vandoren! It is everything that the golden era should be. It is enthusiastic, it offers phenomenal playability, and it has a sound that goes on for days.
NOTE: All used mouthpeices are sales final - no returns. If after you've played it, you can't get along with it, no worries, we'll trade it in for full credit towards a BEHN Flagship mouthpiece.
